# Re-logging past meals

> Most meals are ones you have eaten before. Type a slash to bring them back.

If you eat the same breakfast three mornings a week, there is no reason to
describe it from
scratch each time — and good reason not to, because every fresh description is a
fresh estimate that lands slightly differently.

## How to use it

Type `/` in the input. A list of dishes you have logged before appears. Keep
typing to filter, then pick one.

The pick appears in the input as a reference chip — it is not text you typed, it
is a link to stored data.

You can mix freely:

- Just a past dish: `/grilled chicken breast`
- Several at once: `/grilled chicken breast` `/steamed rice`
- Past and new together: `/grilled chicken breast` + `an iced latte`

The text you type is analysed as normal; the picked references are not.

## Why the numbers match last time exactly

A re-logged dish **does not go through estimation again**. Its nutrition is
carried over from the entry you already confirmed.

> **The real benefit**
>
> Beyond being faster, this keeps your history consistent. If the same lunch came
> out at 475 kcal one day and 530 the next purely because you phrased it
> differently, your weekly chart would be full of noise that is not real.

You can still adjust the amount after picking, if today's portion was smaller.

## Re-logging a whole meal

As well as individual dishes, you can re-log an entire saved meal — useful for a
fixed breakfast or for food you batch-prepare.

## Meals from friends

If someone in your [Circle](https://kallo.fit/en/docs/circle/sharing-and-splits) shares a meal, you
can log it to your own diary — the whole thing, or half of it if you split it
between you.
