# Weight

> Logging weight, reading the trend line, and why the daily number jumps around.

Daily weight is noisy data. Water, salt, digestion and sleep can move the number
a kilo or two within 24 hours while your body fat has not changed at all.

Kallo plots both: the points you logged, and the **trend line** running through
them.

## Logging weight

There is a quick entry on the dashboard. One value per day; logging again the
same day overwrites the earlier one.

> **Weigh consistently**
>
> Same time of day, same conditions — usually first thing in the morning, after
> the bathroom, before eating or drinking. What matters is not the absolute number
> but that the measurements are comparable to each other.

## Reading the trend

The trend line smooths short-term movement. It is what you should be watching —
not today's point.

If you are cutting and the trend has been flat for two weeks while you have been
hitting your target, there are a few possibilities: the estimates are running
low, your activity has changed, or you are holding water. The trend line shows
you that; a single heavy morning does not.

## Projection

From the current trend, Kallo extrapolates forward to show the pace you are on.
This is an extrapolation, not a promise — it assumes everything stays as it is,
and it rarely does.

If the projection implies a sharper pace than is healthy, revisit the aggression
slider in your [profile](https://kallo.fit/en/docs/profile-and-targets).

## How much data it needs

A trend needs a few weeks to mean anything. In the first week the trend line is
close to just repeating the points — there is not enough data to smooth.
